Christopher Nolan talks BATMAN 3 his love for James Bond

Christopher Nolan is a busy guy. He's already begun promoting Inception, and has a Batman sequel and Superman film in the works. Where does he get the inspiration to make such epic films? The classic James Bond movies, he tells the Empire Magazine

"I've been plundering from the Bond movies in everything I've done, forever. I grew up loving them and they're just a huge influence on me. When you look at being able to construct a scenario that's only bound by your imagination, I think the world of Bond movies is a natural place for your mind to go."

Inception, he says, is his most Bond-like film to date, and is most like his favorite film of the franchise: On Her Majesty's Secret Service

"It's a hell of a movie, it holds up very well. What I liked about is that we've tried to emulate in this film is there's a tremendous balance in that movie of action and scale and romanticism and tragedy and emotion. Of all the Bond films, it's by far the most emotional. There's a love story. And Inception is a kind of love story as well as anything else."

It makes sense. One of Nolan's best characteristics is his focus on doing real stunts in real locations. He will use CGI if he has to, but there's a sense of realism that you don't see in big Hollywood movies these days, very reminiscent on the James Bond franchise, which has historically used real stunts as well. I can't wait to see how Inception is like On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I may have to brush up on my Bond!

Speaking with MTV, he gave a small update on the status of Batman 3. MTV asked if he's already thinking about Batman.

"Yes and no I suppose would be the answer. We know we're aiming for 2012. That's been talked about. We're just working on the script, really. My brother [Jonah Nolan] has been hard at work on it for quite some time. It's based on a story that myself and David Goyer have written. [But] I've been very completely in this movie [Inception]."

The short video is below.

I'm sure we'll hear more from Nolan in the coming weeks. Inception hits theaters July 16.
