'Contraband' trailer - Mark Wahlberg gets back to kicking ass

Mark Wahlberg has been running around doing a lot of producer work lately, but come next year, we get to see him back in action in Contraband, a face-paced, high-stakes heist movie. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised that this trailer reminds me a lot of The Italian Job (yes, you recall correctly, Mark Wahlberg was the lead in that movie too) with a sprinkle of Taken thrown into the mix.

In Contraband, Wahlberg plays Chris Farraday, a former smuggler who managed to get out of the life of crime to—ironically—be a security guard and start family. But Chris finds himself back in the game when his brother-in-law, Andy, played by Caleb Jones (X-Men: First Class, Friday Night Lights), reveals that he never left the smuggling business, and has just screwed up his most recent job. Chris only has a little bit of time to get Andy's debts in order before the drug lord and his men starting coming after his wife and children.

I almost didn't recognize Kate Beckinsale (Underworld, Vacancy) playing Kate Farraday with all that blonde hair, but I'm sure she'll fit right in since Beckinsale is certainly no stranger to the action-thriller genre. Baltasar Kormákur will be directing, and though he's relatively new with only a handful of directed films under his belt, I'm not worried. I will admit that I have a bit of a soft spot for clever, capable thieves out-smarting the people around them—Heat, Ocean's Eleven, and Inside Man, to name a few, and I'm looking forward to adding Contraband to the list.

The movie is set to be released on January 13, 2012.
