'Arrested Development' returns! - New episodes coming to Netflix

I think I just blue myself. Arrested Development has been off the air for almost six years, but its return is now official. Fox will develop and stream new episodes of the series exclusively for Netflix, beginning in 2013. Series creator Mitchell Hurwitz and all of the principle cast members will return including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, and narrator Ron Howard. It looks like the Save Our Bluths campaign finally worked.

This news comes via a tweet from Netflix which reads “Starting in 2013, all new episodes of ‘Arrested Development’ will be available exclusively to U.S. Netflix Members to watch instantly!”

In October, Hurwitz said that the Arrested Development movie was finally about half written and deals almost in place, but added that he’d like to also make a miniseries leading up to the movie. Each episode of the series would follow one of the show’s nine lead characters, with all of the plots converging on the movie when everyone gets back together. It sounds ambitous and strange, but that’s what Arrested Development is all about.

I wonder, will Netflix run the series episode by episode like a traditional TV network, or will it release all of the episodes at once, as it currently does with most TV shows. And will the show come back after the movie for another season if it proves to be a hit? One thing’s for certain: you all have a good reason to get Netflix now.
