'Arrested Development' returns! - New episodes coming to Netflix

I think I just blue myself. Arrested Development has been off the air for almost six years, but its return is now official. Fox will develop and stream new episodes of the series exclusively for Netflix, beginning in 2013. Series creator Mitchell Hurwitz and all of the principle cast members will return including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi, Tony Hale, Alia Shawkat, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, and narrator Ron Howard. It looks like the Save Our Bluths campaign finally worked.

Arrested Development may finally return as a miniseries and movie

The big news has finally been revealed! Fans have been waiting for an Arrested Development movie for years, and on Oct. 2, series creator Mitchell Hurwitz revealed that the script is about half done and a 9-10 episode miniseries may proceed the movie, with each episode following one of the nine cast members. Hulu and Netflix are already both bidding for online distribution rights to the project.

Here's Arrested Develpment as a big-budget action movie (video)

The real Arrested Development movie is only half written, but judging from the footage here, AD would make an awful action movie. If I were Mitch Hurwitz, I'd think about making it a CGI / live-action comedy. That's pretty trendy these days. The Bluth's could meet Mr. Banana Grabber, though I'm not sure who owns the animation rights...

Arrested Development movie script is halfway there

It's hard to say if this is news or not, but series creator Mitchell Hurwitz confirmed that the script for the long awaited Arrested Development movie is in the works and about half-finished! It's oddly fast, since he only recently confirmed that he had started writing it. Hurwitz, you sly dog.

Were writing it; we’re halfway through…The reason I’ve been so cagey is fans have been so [eager about it]. I really want to do it…It’s not going to be a big money maker…It’s going to be fun, like a family reunion. The only stumbling block could be scheduling. Everybody wants to play together. - Mitch Hurwitz at the Television Critics Awards

Creator Mitchell Hurwitz confirms Arrested Development movie

For those who have been hoping for an Arrested Development movie, this news isn't going to cure your anxiety. Still, we can still hope for one last annual Bluth fundraiser. While promoting the new series, AD creator Mitchell Hurwitz confirmed that the movie will happen, contradicting remarks made by Cross some time back.

David Cross on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT movie: "It's not going to happen"

Well this isn't good. Last month we heard that the AD movie has been pushed back due to a new sitcom Will Arnett and series creator Mitch Hurwitz are creating. This was particularly disheartening because, for the first time, all signs pointed toward a movie being made, and soon. Michael Cera even signed on.

Now we get more bad news. Speaking with TV Squad, Cross said "It's not going to happen."

I think what I will tell you, it's not going to happen. It's not official, but I just don't think it's going to happen. Way too much time it's been (since the show ended). I mean, there's so many people involved. Everyone's doing their own thing, you know. And everybody's aged. It's just not going to happen. I'm sure I speak for everybody when I say we'd love for it to happen, we'd love to work on it, but just I don't think... not going to happen.

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT movie pushed back due to new Will Arnett sitcom

Arrested Development is development...again. While the project was on track to begin filming this year, a new project may push it back. Speaking with MTV, Jason Bateman broke the news that the project is still in the works, but will be pushed back due to a new TV show AD series creator Mitchell Hurwitz and G.O.B. himself, Will Arnett. Video of Bateman's quote and info on Arnett's new series are after the jump.

The Arrested Development Documentary is almost here (Deleted Scene)

To begin, Arrested Development is the funniest television series I’ve ever seen. I can’t think of a show with more layers of comedy and humor in it. The show had a rough ride on Fox in the early 2000s (around the time Fox screwed up FireFly as well). Despite winning multiple Emmys and selling like crazy on DVD, Arrested Development never managed to gain enough audience to keep Fox happy, and the network cancelled it halfway through its third season. Want to find out more about it? Well, a couple fans have taken it upon themselves to help you out.

Two admitted AD addicts, Neil and Jeff, are making a documentary about the show, which had a drama-filled relationship with Fox. You can learn about the documentary here. There is no release date for the film yet, but the duo is working on attaining a distribution deal. In the meantime, they have released a new deleted scene from the documentary. Enjoy.
