'A Good Day to Die Hard' plot details and release date revealed

Today, Fox made Die Hard 5 official. Tom Rothman, CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment, appeared on The Jim Rome show this morning (apparently Jim is a fan) and announced that John McClane will hit the big screen again in 2013. The sequel will be called "A Good Day to Die Hard," reports /Film, which picked up the major details of the announcement.

If you haven't heard of Zach Galifianakis before, Between Two Ferns is always a great way to learn. The Funny or Die web series has been updated almost once a month as of late. In this episode, Zach interviews Bruce Willis and sets himself on fire. Check it out!

DIE HARD 5 has a writer

A few months ago, when Bruce Willis started hinting that a fifth Die Hard movie might happen, I thought he was just trying to change the subject. After all, who wants to talk about Cop Out. It's terrible. It turns out, he wasn't joking. The project is moving ahead, and now has a writer. Skip Woods is in negotiations to pen the sequel, reports THR (via Cinematical).

THE EXPENDABLES trailer is packed full of 80s action

We've been hearing about Sylvester Stallone's big 80s action return for a while, but now the trailer is finally here. The Expendables stars Stallone and a huge cast of action stars including Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, and the immortal Dolph Lundgren. Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger also make short appearances in the film.

Watching the trailer, I can't help but feel nostalgic. Like the recently released Ninja Assassin, The Expendables seems to take pride in its ludicrous nature. Its villains are 80s stereotypes, its explosions are huge, and its premise is entirely unwarranted. It hits theaters August 13. Thanks to my friends at Filmonic for the link.

COP OUT ain't no friend of mine

I am a fan of Tracy Morgan, Bruce Willis, and Kevin Smith. I never want to see them ever work together again. They have no chemistry. Cop Out is a buddy cop parody with the comedic timing of a dead horse. Labeling it a parody suggests some intelligence behind the stitch-work of broken scenes and poorly executed jokes. No such sentience is at work here. Cop Out aimlessly references and quotes popular films from the past, but relies on the lamest aspects of 80s buddy cop movies to hold its 'plot' together.

DIE HARD 5 may film next year, says Willis

John McClane is coming back for another round, according to Bruce Willis. The star told MTV that the next film may film next year. He'd also like Len Wiseman to direct and thinks the series needs to take it up a notch and have a "worldwide" plot. If we were to judge by the current trajectory of this series, I think Die Hard 5 might actually be Superman 6. Here's the video.

Movie News Bits - The Lizard in SPIDER-MAN 4, Hulu to start charging, new trailer for UNCERTAINTY, DISTRICT 9 director starts next film, Willis in KANE & LYNCH

Here are a few newsy highlights for the day. I have to say, I'm very bothered by the Hulu news. This could be the end of free premium content. Entertainment executives need to get their heads out of their asses. I'm also happy to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a "new" movie. Check these stories out, and more, after the jump.

Surrogates is a helluva lot better than I expected (Review)

Surrogates has a lot riding against it. At first glance it looks cliché and trite. From the ads, it looked like Bruce Willis phoned this one in for the paycheck. I was wrong. Surrogates, while not lacking in certain clichés, is much better than the movie I thought it would be, and is an engaging and exciting thriller from start to finish.
