Peter Jackson threatens to film The Hobbit outside of New Zealand due to actors unions boycotts

Peter Jackson issued a bold statement yesterday after taking flack from several actors unions in Australia and New Zealand who are calling for actors to boycott the troubled production, which has been mired in perpetual delay due to the financial woes of MGM Studios. Recently, there has been talk of filming beginning early 2011. This new actors crisis could the production back, yet again. 

The issue concerns non-union actors. The IFA, MEAA, and other actors unions are pushing to allow non-union actors to participate in collective if they were in a union. Jackson fired back in a long response, explaining that this demand may not be legal and, if he has to, he will shut down or move The Hobbit production to Europe, leaving New Zealand, the country that he loves.
