New trailer for 'The Muppets' reveals its plot

I've always had a soft spot for Jim Henson and it looks like The Muppets might be a decent comeback for the theater gang. Assuming it doesn't get too cutesy and stays edgy enough to score some laughs, this could be one of the better November movies out this year. This new trailer shows the plot which seems to be that the Muppets want to make a comeback but Hollywood keeps saying their old and irrelevent (likely to pass them up for a shot-for-shot remake of Footloose...).

The Muppets is directed by James Bobin, who is mostly known for his TV work writing and directing Flight of the Conchords and Da Ali G Show. It was written by Jason Segal and Nicholas Stoller, both of which have written some good Judd Apatow comedies in recent years.

The Muppets hits theaters Nov. 23, 2011. It promises to be full of celebrities and even has a new theme song, sung by OK Go

OK Go sings the Muppet Theme Song - video & behind the scenes

To promote the Nov. 23 return of Kermit and the gang in The Muppets, Disney and the Jim Henson Company have put together a new album of Muppets cover songs, remade by popular bands. Pixar lends a hand to Jason Segel's Muppet movie

Pixar sure is busy. I worry about them. Worry or not, they are lending a helping hand to a lot of projects these days, including Jason Segel's new Muppet movie. According to Empire Online, the script was read to Pixar royalty Pete Doctor (big Muppet fan), Michael Arndt, Brad Bird, and Ed Catmull. There's no word on whether it's because the script needs work or if the film's creators just want some professional advice.

Weinstein Company orders a rewrite of Fraggle Rock script to "connect with an older, more sophisticated audience"

Well, I think I'm on the Weinstein's side of the argument now. Here's the story: about three weeks ago, Cory Edwards--who is under contract to write and direct a new Fraggle Rock movie--went rogue and wrote a long blog post accusing the Weinstein Co. (they have the cash) of conspiring against him and trying to ruin the beloved children's series by making it "edgy." I discussed the whole thing, at length, here.
