After months of rumours regarding possible villains and the actors supposedly playing them, J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot sequel has finally gotten underway and shooting started this week. With cast confirmations emerging all the time it seems like a good time to recap the news so far.

'Alcatraz' TV promo - First shots of the mysterious new J.J. Abrams show

I’m not sure what to make of this one. Thanks to the success of Lost, Fringe, and Star Trek, J.J. Abrams is the man to know in Hollywood and on TV. His newest project is a TV show called Alcatraz and will hit Fox in January. Unsurprisingly, it has a bit of a Lost vibe to it, but also stars Sam Neill.

Mission: Impossible IV to be renamed and star Jeremy Renner

Ethan Hunt is taking a cue from James Bond, it seems. The next Mission: Impossible film may not be named Mission: Impossible IV, breaking the current naming convention. New J.J. Abrams/Spielberg SUPER 8 teaser trailer arrives (video)

These videos keep getting taken down, but here is the teaser trailer for the upcoming Steven Spielberg produced and J.J. Abrams directed action flick, Super 8. It debuted with Iron Man 2 at midnight last night. The title refers to the brand of the 8 mm camcorder that supposedly records the event. This appears to be a merger of Spielberg style action films and J.J. Abrams Cloverfield project (a favorite of mine). Abrams is very hot right now, producing last year's Star Trek and a number of successful TV shows including Lost, Fringe, Felicity, Alias, and the upcoming series Undercovers. He also wrote Joy Ride and Armageddon. Not bad.

This looks fun, though Deadline reports that it hasn't begun shooting yet. Super 8 is scheduled to hit theaters next summer. What do you guys think?

Leonard Nimoy is retiring, for real

The search for Bigfoot may never conclude, but Leonard Nimoy has decided to call it a career and retire from acting and filmmaking for good. The 79-year-old just finished his guest starring role on J.J. Abram's Fringe TV show and plans to leave show business on a high note, he told the Toronto Sun.
