50/50 review - the lighter side of cancer

Jonathan Levine's 50/50 opens with Adam Lerner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) jogging breathlessly along a riverbank. He doesn't know it yet, but he has a cancerous tumour growing along his spine and he might die. This is strange, because he seems perfectly healthy – in addition to exercising regularly, he abstains from drinking and holds down a good job. He has his own place and a hot girlfriend, to boot. In fact, he seems to have the kind of life that we all think we’re supposed to have, and then in an instant his world is turned upside down. His doctor informs him in perhaps the most obnoxious way possible of his condition, and what follows is a journey through life, love, friendship, and marijuana. This is one of those films that instantly springs to mind when you think of the word "heartfelt."

Gordon-Levitt and Johannson to star in zombie romance (rumor)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlet Johannson are "loosely" attached to star in Breathers: A Zombie's Lament, according to Pajiba. The script, written by Diablo Cody, is adapted from a novel of the same name. In a twist from the many other zombie films out there, this one will be about love, of all things. The book follows an undead man (Gordon-Levitt) who must come to grips with living as a decaying mound of flesh in a society that denies zombies basic rights. Johannson, I assume, falls in love with the dead guy. Sheesh. Women will fall in love with anything these days.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt crashes through a taxi window while on Premium Rush

That looks painful. Inception star Joseph Gordon Levitt crashed into a taxi cab while filming his next film, Premium Rush, where he plays a bike messenger who gets hold of a package some people don't want him to have. Gordon-Levitt has a great attitude about the crash though, showing off his wound for the camera and taking the blame in his Tumblr blog. Director David Koepp (Secret Window) caught the incident on tape.

Check it out: Joseph Gordon-Levitt with grunge hair and tattoos (video)

Well, I need to see Hesher. The film was one of many at Sundance this year and stars Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman, and Rainn Wilson (Dwight!). The clip below comes from Comic-Con and I hope we get a full theatrical release for this one. Give it a looksie.

New Inception trailer shows off its characters

I hesitate to post this, because I believe the less we know about this film, the better it will be, but I can't help myself. I never liked an unopened present. Warner Bros. has released a new trailer showing off the characters and their roles in the film. To learn more, continue on.

Check it out: New INCEPTION trailer and poster!

A revealing new trailer and fun poster for Christopher Nolan's (Memento, Insomnia, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, The Prestige) new film, Inception, has arrived. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a dream thief of sorts. Joseph Gordon-Levitt appears to play a member of his team. The story synopsis is below (warning! there are a couple spoilers). The film's story is completely original, unlike almost everything else to come out of Hollywood these days. It hits theaters July 16th.

Movie News Bits - The Lizard in SPIDER-MAN 4, Hulu to start charging, new trailer for UNCERTAINTY, DISTRICT 9 director starts next film, Willis in KANE & LYNCH

Here are a few newsy highlights for the day. I have to say, I'm very bothered by the Hulu news. This could be the end of free premium content. Entertainment executives need to get their heads out of their asses. I'm also happy to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a "new" movie. Check these stories out, and more, after the jump.

From Shakespeare to screen: How 10 Things I Hate About You fails to Tame the Shrew

A few weeks ago, I heard that the Heath Ledger/Julia Stiles career launcher 10 Things I Hate About You (directed by Gil Junger) is actually a modern remake of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.  I saw 10 Things back when it was new (10 years ago) and didn’t think it was too bad, but I also didn’t think it was trying to be modern Shakespeare. So, instead of just hearing this news like a normal person, I decided to watch and read them both to see if 10 Things is actually anything like The Taming of the Shrew.

Review - 500 Days of Summer

Rarely have I left a film so happy and fulfilled. 500 Days of Summer tells a story that happens long after most romantic comedies finish their third act and spool the credits. It starts at the end of a relationship (Day 299 to be exact) and skips back and forth through time, picking up its pieces along the way. This is an honest, very funny movie about accepting, coping, and moving on when a relationship doesn't work; and 99% of the time, they don't.

500 Days of Summer music video is here (Video)

I finally got to see 500 Days of Summer, and it was great. However, for those of you who haven’t (and have) here’s a new music video Fox Searchlight has released to promote the movie. Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel star, with Marc Webb directing. The song is “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” from Zooey’s band Him and Her. Enjoy!
