'True Grit' gets a decidedly ungritty teaser trailer

Sure, there's plenty of dust, but where's the grit? This slick teaser trailer comes from the Coen brothers, the duo who brought you No Country For Old Men, The Big Lebowski, Burn After Reading, and a bunch of other strange, but funny, but serious movies. True Grit has a superb cast including Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin, Matt Damon, and Hailee Steinfeld. Like most Ethan and Joel Coen films, it's hard to say what this movie is actually about, but I did find a description!

WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS is more reaction than action, but a good story nonetheless

Rating:  (Good)

It serves as a sign of the times that the villain in Wall Street, Gordon Gekko, is now the hero in its sequel. He hasn't changed all that much either; the world has just gotten greedier around him. "Greed is good," he says in a lecture, "and now it seems it's legal." In 1987, Oliver Stone made a bold statement about greed and where we were headed as a society; he was ahead of his time. Unfortunately, instead of killing greed since the 80s, Wall Street simply got quieter and more clever about it, inventing new ways to play its game.

In Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Stone shows he still understands the subject and has something to say, but he's late to the soap box. The biggest financial meltdown in history has already happened. Why didn't we get a new Wall Street 3-4 years ago, when it might have made a difference? Stone didn't see the financial market meltdown coming either; Now, instead of making a bold statement on greed, he's filmed a somewhat tame reaction to catastrophe.

JONAH HEX lacks the cool space guns and rocking music of a Muse video (review)

Rating:  (Embarrassing)

Jonah Hex is an 80 minute (less if you don't watch the credits) eruption of Hollywood explosions, dumb dialogue, Megan Fox closeups, and hero-meets-villain confrontations. It's Hollywood's closest attempt at mimicking the Knights of Cydonia Muse video, but lacks the cool space guns and rocking music.

If you don't believe me, see it. There are a few remarkable similarities. The villain (John Malkovich) kidnaps the hero's girlfriend and shoots him. The hero dies out in the woods, but is somehow brought back to life so he can gallop back to save his girlfriend to the beat of heavy rock music and stop John Malkovich from destroying the Fourth of July. If Hex were a feature length Muse video, I'd love it. Sadly, it isn't

JONAH HEX trailer looks somewhat typical

Megan Fox seems to enjoy movies where someone is bound and tortured. She starred in Jennifer's Body last year. This time, however, no succubus emerges. Instead, Josh Brolin becomes a man sworn to protect the west from evil, and avenge the innocent. Jonah Hex is based on a DC Comic that first cropped up in the early 1970s. John Malkovich plays the villain and it looks like funnyman Will Arnett makes an appearance as well.
