'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' review - The worst Nicolas Cage movie yet

Nicolas Cage was great as a comedic take on Batman in Kick-Ass, but he’s still an odd choice for any superhero role. Ghost Rider is no exception. The first Ghost Rider, directed by the man behind Daredevil, was widely panned by critics and audiences. Five years later, we’re back again with Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Again we have Cage at the helm as Johnny Blaze, this time with the duo of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor directing. If you thought the first Ghost Rider was bad, it only gets worse from here.

KICK-ASS is violent, hilarious, bloody, and all kinds of awesome

Rating:  (Masterpiece)

Is it violent? Sure. Is it morally reprehensible? Probably. Does it feature a young girl beating the hell out of people and getting beaten within an inch of her life? Yes. Will your girlfriend like it? This ain't The Notebook. Kick-Ass is hilarious and brutal. If you don't believe violent movies are ruining society (I, for one, think we'll be OK), it's also the best action/comedy since Zombieland.

Like Zombieland, Kick-Ass stars an awkward teenager who gets mixed up in an ever more violent situation. However, unlike Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) from Zombieland, Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) does not get caught up in the end of the world: he causes his own problems. Dave is kind of a nobody. He isn't a great athlete, and he isn't good at being a geek. Like most kids his age, he "simply exists," trying to make it through his days without hassle.

New trailer for THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE reminds me of JUMPER

It's probably the car transformation scene, but this trailer feels a bit too similar to Jumper, which is my least favorite film of 2008. Jumper is the movie that inspired me to write my first film review (I wrote about video games before that). I felt cheated by the marketing. The portions of this trailer that don't remind me of Jumper are similar to National Treasure and The Mummy. This makes sense. Director Jon Turteltaub also made National Treasure. We shall see if they finally get an urban wizard story right. The Sorcerer's Apprentice hits theaters July 16, 2010.

Movie News Bits - Viacom buys TMNT, full frontal NEW MOON clip, Weather Channel shows movies, and a SEASON OF THE WITCH Nicolas Cage teaser trailer

Here are a few news stories for the day. I don't have the time or resources to write up long thoughtful stories on all the news I hear, but I would like to start sharing more of them. I hope to aggregate some of the more interesting news into stories like these. Let me know what you think below.

Hilarious Pixar Intro Parody

Go College Humor! Very well made. The vomiting 'P' is a nice touch. More stories after the jump.
