THE EXPENDABLES trailer is packed full of 80s action

We've been hearing about Sylvester Stallone's big 80s action return for a while, but now the trailer is finally here. The Expendables stars Stallone and a huge cast of action stars including Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, and the immortal Dolph Lundgren. Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger also make short appearances in the film.

Watching the trailer, I can't help but feel nostalgic. Like the recently released Ninja Assassin, The Expendables seems to take pride in its ludicrous nature. Its villains are 80s stereotypes, its explosions are huge, and its premise is entirely unwarranted. It hits theaters August 13. Thanks to my friends at Filmonic for the link.

NINJA ASSASSIN brings back the insanity of 80's action films

The acting is cardboard; the plot is nonsense; the theme and sets are cliche; the action is too gory; the gore is too bloody; and the music has an electronic heartbeat, like Mortal Kombat and The Matrix. Ninja Assassin gives nothing to the art of film. Still, it is a friendly trip back to the 80s--the movie industry's biggest and loudest decade--and for that, I enjoyed it.

Ninja Assassin is pretty badass (new poster & trailer)

Where did this movie come from? I haven't heard much about it until now. The first poster and trailer have been released. Check the trailer out. The movie looks exactly how I'd imagine Ninja Gaiden (a video game franchise) looking if it hit the big screen. It's directed by James McTeigue, who directed V for Vendetta a few years back, and produced by the Wachowski Brothers and Joel Silver, who are best known for The Matrix trilogy. The story is pretty simple: a guy grows up with a clan of ninjas, someone betrays someone else, and he ends up having to fight his own masters in mortal combat.

Move over Three Ninjas, there's a new master in town. Here's the trailer.

Here's the official poster. Ninja Assassin hits theaters November 25, 2009.
