The Amazing Spider-Man is undoubtedly one of the biggest movies coming out this year, but there are a lot of people who still don’t quite know how it ties in with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. Is it a remake? A reboot? A sequel? Well, from what we’re hearing about the sneak preview, new shots, and Director Mark Webb (500 Days of Summer) himself, it sounds like the new film is a completely different take on Spider-Man. The new trailer confirms it.

'The Evil Dead' remake update: Raimi and Campbell are on board, but no Ash

Fans of The Evil Dead, I have some interesting news for you. First, Sam Raimi, creator of the original 1981 The Evil Dead, is involved in the upcoming remake of the film, scheduled for 2013. Sadly, the 2013 version does not include the beloved and darkly heroic Ash, originally played by Bruce Campbell.

Homer Simpson Vs. Army of Darkness (poster)

Trapped in time.
Surrounded by evil.
Low on Duff.

Fans of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series and The Simpsons should get a kick out of this. I wish Matt Groaning would try something like this, as Family Guy has had a lot of success with its Star Wars remakes. The picture was drawn by Paul Williams and is a part of Another 100 Days of Art charity.

If you know of a sweet graphic or trailer, contact me. I'd love to hear from you.

Sam Raimi speaks up about Warcraft movie

With Spider-Man 4 canceled (it's being rebooted), the Warcraft movie may be next on Sam Raimi's plate. Collider caught up with him at the Saturn Awards this week. The film is still in the script stage, but he did confirm that it will entirely take place in the fictional Warcraft world of Azeroth; the film won't take a Masters of the Universe or Smurfs angle and have Elfs and Taurens roaming New York City. This is highly reassuring, as I wouldn't see a fantasy movie to check out NYC. Fantasy films used to do this out of necessity, but CGI and New Zealand have ended the relevance of such techniques.

Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire out of SPIDER-MAN 4; Sony plans a complete Spider-Man reboot for 2012

Well this is sudden. Sam Raimi has left Spider-Man 4, citing an inability to finish the movie and retain his creative integrity by Sony's May 5, 2011 release date. This comes on the heels of Raimi's vocal outrage about the poor quality of the Spidey 4 script less than one week ago. Raimi and Sony executives hadn't been seeing eye to eye for a while. Executives wanted Anne Hathaway in the picture as Black Cat and weren't happy about Raimi's insistence that John Malkovich play the villain (I'm guessing it was The Vulture). Tobey Maquire and Kirsten Dunst are out as well. More details on this and the new script after the jump.

Sam Raimi to direct Warcraft movie

Sam Raimi, director of the Evil Dead series, Spider-Man series, and most recently Drag Me To Hell, has signed on to helm a live-action adaptation of Activision Blizzard's Warcraft videogame franchise. "The Dark Knight" producer Charles Roven is also onboard. Raimi will start shooting Warcraft after he finishes Spider-Man 4, which will likely be late 2010 or early 2011.

Under a deal inked in 2006, Legendary Pictures will produce the title, with input from Activision Blizzard. Warner Bros. has signed on to co-finance and distribute the film. Legendary Pictures and Blizzard have been working together since 2007 on pre-production. Though it will take place in Azeroth, old rumors indicate that the story will be original, and peg the budget at $100+ million.
