The Expendables debuts decently, Scott Pilgrim is in for a fight (box office)

It seems that collecting every major action star and having them shoot shit for an hour and a half will get you $35 million. It's a far cry from today's biggest releases, but puts the movie well on its way to breaking its $70 million budget. At 64, Sylvester Stallone is officially an action star again. Julia Roberts ate, prayed, and loved her way to number two. The full Top 10 is below.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD is better than the sum of its pop culture references (review)

Rating: (Awesome)

Love is strange. It turns a life upside down; it shakes the morose out of the mundane of day-to-day life. When love enters, we feel anything is possible and the world is a kingdom we rule. For Scott Pilgrim, nothing is normal after Ramona Flowers skates past his Toronto lair. His world is a dream and his dream feels real. As it turns out, getting into the head of an Indie rocking, video game playing, movie quoting 22-year-old in love is more fun than you might think. You can cough it up to demographics if you'd like, but Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is one of the most honest films about relationships I've seen since 500 Days of Summer (one of my favorite films, ever) in the best and most ridiculous kind of way.

Sylvester Stallone destroys YouTube in this trailer

When Scott Pilgrim decided to vs. the World and release an interactive trailer and fake posters on the internet, I don't think he realized that Sylvester Stallone is also releasing a film on 8/13/2010. In this awesome non-interactive, explosive interview, Stallone breaks YouTube with a bazooka. Very fun to watch. It's good to see films taking advantage of the net in new ways.

Watch this interactive trailer for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (very cool)

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is one of my most anticipated movies, and it's coming out soon. Smartly, Edgar Wright and the the team behind this comic book adaptation have made an interactive trailer that is a lot like a video game. You can click on anything and get points, but once you click on something, you have the option to investigate it further. It's fun! Watch and play below!

Awesome: An Expendables trailer made by a fan who hates chick flicks and loves Andrew W.K. (who doesn't)

It's time to party hard, fellas. There's one guy who thinks that romantic comedies are edging out the guns and violence. I tend to disagree, though 2010 is a very polarizing year for men and women. The Expendables is opening on August 13 against Eat. Pray. Love. starring Julia Roberts. However, it's also opening up against Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, a very guy-oriented movie. So guys are in trouble here. If half of them go see each of these two films and every woman sees Eat. Pray. Love., men will lose. Dilemma. Anyway, watch the trailer below, which features music by the ultimate rock god: Andrew W.K.

New Scott Pilgrim featurette begins to explain Pilgrim's world

Love changes the way you look at the world, we learn in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, which has Michael Cera physically experiencing and defeating what we all face with every new relationship. This new featurette gives a good introduction into his world, which is based on a comic book series full of what I'm hearing is called "pop art." Apparently Scott's world starts out very normal, but once he meets Ramona Flowers--the girl of his dreams--his perception changes. Things become more exaggerated and literal. Check out the video below, which contains some clips from recent trailers.

Hey, another Scott Pilgrim vs The World trailer is here

Scott Pilgrim vs The World is a video game fan's wet dream, though I'll get more hate mail if I don't point out that it's based on a comic book series. Clearly though, said comic book series is partially inspired by video games. Either that or the film is an entirely inaccurate retelling of the comic book. If I were a good reporter, I'd have already read it. I'm not. The trailer, and my thoughts, are below.

Watch this: SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD is a videogame come to life (teaser trailer)

Now this looks fun and original. The film follows Scott Pilgrim, an unassuming young man who falls for a pink-haired girl named Ramona V. Flowers. We all bring our own share of baggage to each new relationship, but Ramona's past haunts her in a very real way. Scott Pilgrim must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil ex-boyfriends in order to win her heart. It looks like a videogame come to life. Only a videogame would you have to fight seven ex-boyfriends in a row with magic powers and a super guitar. Fun stuff. What do you guys think?

The film is adapted and directed by Edgar Wright, who made the hilarious Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and stars Michael Cera, who is starting to branch out. Cera recently starred in Youth in Revolt (review), which is an odd, but fascinating film. Scott Pilgrim vs the World will hit theaters August 13, the same weekend as The Expendables, which debuted its first trailer yesterday.
