A 'John Carter' cheat sheet: 6 things you need to know

Disney’s John Carter will be released soon, but the marketing for the film has been somewhat hit or miss. For those unfamiliar with the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels, the trailers prompt more questions than a paternity debate on Jerry Springer. Luckily, I read the first three novels a few years ago, so here is a John Carter Cheat Sheet to help fill in the blanks. I tried to keep this as spoiler free as possible, but feel free to skip this if you want to go into the film blind.

Could NBC's Chuck be Nolan's Superman? And is Jonathan Nolan directing?

I try not to report on rumors, but I like this one. Zachary Levi, star of NBC's spy-comedy series Chuck, may be in the running to be the next Man of Steel. Oh, and Jonathan Nolan, brother of Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Memento, etc) may direct the film. It would be his first time directing, but since he's written the script, it fits. More after the jump.

Christopher Nolan talks BATMAN 3 his love for James Bond

Christopher Nolan is a busy guy. He's already begun promoting Inception, and has a Batman sequel and Superman film in the works. Where does he get the inspiration to make such epic films? The classic James Bond movies, he tells the Empire Magazine

"I've been plundering from the Bond movies in everything I've done, forever. I grew up loving them and they're just a huge influence on me. When you look at being able to construct a scenario that's only bound by your imagination, I think the world of Bond movies is a natural place for your mind to go."

Inception, he says, is his most Bond-like film to date, and is most like his favorite film of the franchise: On Her Majesty's Secret Service

Here's a cool video tribute to DC Comics movies

While we should never forget how bad Batman & Robin is, there have been some great movie moments for DC Comics characters. This collection of cool moments was found by Peter Sciretta at /Film. Though some of these movies are pretty bad, this video sure paints a different picture.

Next BATMAN may be the last for Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan is usually very tight lipped about his upcoming projects. The director of Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Insomnia, The Prestige, and Memento now has a third Batman and a new Superman film and on his plate. However, the LA Times managed to pry some info from him about the upcoming films.

On the upcoming sequel to The Dark Knight, Nolan said his brother Jonah is locked away writing the final draft of the film. Quotes and info on Superman after the jump.

SUPERMAN 6, from the makers of THE DARK NIGHT

Superman is returning to theaters again, this time shepherded by Batman Begins and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan. Even better, today reports indicate that Batman series writers Jonah Nolan and David Goyer are writing the new film, still tentatively titled The Man of Steel

Rumors went flying today, but the consensus is that the new film is moving forward and will not retell Superman's origin story. We don't yet know if it will acknowledge the older films. Superman Returns director Bryan Singer and star Brandon Routh will not be returning for the new film, which is now a priority for Warner Bros. The company must get another Superman film into production by 2011 or face losing the Superman license. Even worse, it might have to pay a boatload of cash to get that license back. It's always about the Benjamins.
