20 films that make BBC readers cry, and yes, The Notebook made the list

When Lord of the Rings tops a list of tearjerkers, I take notice. Partly because, well, I love LOTR, but also because it never made me cry. This makes me wonder just how many British men are big pansies. Hit the jump to read BBC's top 20 list

INCEPTION meets Pixar's UP in this trailer mash...up

Inception, the next film from auteur Christopher Nolan, is on its way. Check out the trailer, if you haven't yet. After you're finished, come on back and watch this mash up.  It's almost as good as the Pocahontas / Avatar trailer a few months back.

Youtube user iwantmyTVNOW created the trailer. Thanks to Filmonic for the link and for pointing out that the beautiful music in the trailer is "Mind Heist" by Zack Hemsey. Click here to listen to the full track.

Pixar cancels NEWT...is Pixar losing itself now that it's a part of Disney?

Newt, an original film, has gotten the axe in favor of a sequel flurry at Pixar. This is the first announced project that Pixar has cancelled. Newt was announced in April 2008 at Disney/Pixar's Animation Presentation in New York City and was scheduled to be released in the summer of 2011.

Movies and Melodies #1 - 2010 Best Score nominees

I'm trying something new. This is the first edition of a new podcast I'm debuting here on Cinema Soldier. It'll air every weekend on TalkLansing.net and MIentertainment.biz--two new internet radio stations in my area (Michigan, US). I produce several shows, write, and run their websites. Click play to listen, or download the MP3 at the bottom of this post. Let me know what you think! Feedback is appreciated.

Movies and Melodies is a weekly show celebrating beautiful and cinematic music on and off the screen. In my first show, I play some of my favorite tracks from all five of this year's Best Original Film Score nominees: Sherlock Holmes, Avatar, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Hurt Locker, and Up. If you like anything you hear, there are links below to purchase or preview all of the music in the show.

Click here to follow this show's podcast feed. It will be on iTunes soon. Please shoot me an email if you have a directory where I can't be found.

My 10 favorite films of 2009; also, Happy New Year!

It's the end of the year. You know, that time of the season when every website and publication names the "greatest" or "best" films of the year. I don't plan to tell you what the "best" movies of the year are, but here are my ten favorites of the many many of films I saw. Out of everything this year, these are the films that best captured my interest. These are movies I wanted to go see again and again. They're the ones I'll be adding to my DVD collection and recommend to friends. They are listed in no particular order.
