'Rampage' the movie: This could be a horrible idea

Not being much of a gamer, I’m somewhat a “noob” when it comes to complaining about Hollywood adapting (and usually ruining) a beloved video game. Now that New Line Cinema, sister company to Warner Brothers, has announced its intention to develop a Rampage movie, however, I feel like my day is coming.

Check it out: 8Bits, a short film chock full of video game goodness!

Do you remember 0 and 1, my friends? This is an odd short, but it's has some damn good animation. I'm not entirely sure what it's about, but it involves a big bad guy, an unlikely hero, and a princess that keeps being taken to another castle--classic video game themes. The art reminds me of Psychonauts and the presentation style is a lot like Viewtiful Joe. Never heard of these games? That's fine. You're bound to notice something, be it the 2D transfers, Super Mario sounds, Sonic the Hedgehog bounces, Street Fighter boss battle, Zelda princess, TMNT exit, super copter, or race car ending. If not, hey, it's still a fun 4 minutes.

Can an iPhone game about shooting birds at buildings become a great movie?

I was on a camping trip some months ago and saw a friend playing a goofy little game on his iPod Touch called Angry Birds. It's a popular game (6.5 million downloads at 99 cents a pop) where you slingshot cartoon birds at cartoon buildings. They don't really have to be birds. They could just as well be rocks or balls. It's just a fun theme the developer, Rovio Mobile, thought up to make their side-scrolling physics tumble game more affable. Well, now Rovio wants to take that fun theme and turn it into a broad entertainment brand. TV shows, comics, toys, movies, they're all in the works.

Is Valve considering making a Half-Life movie itself?

As someone who is finally playing through Half-Life 2 right now, I can say that it would make a great movie. Like many video game developers, Valve does not have a positive history with Hollywood. In an interview with PC Gamer, CEO and co-founder Gabe Newell shared the company's attempts to make a Half-Life movie.

Rumor: Brad Pitt interested in Red Dead Redemption movie

I haven't had a chance to play Red Dead Redemption yet, but I've heard good things. Apparently so has Brad Pitt. ShowbizSpy reports that Pitt has been offered first right of refusal for the role of John Marston, the lead character in a big screen version of the popular Rockstar video game.

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD is better than the sum of its pop culture references (review)

Rating: (Awesome)

Love is strange. It turns a life upside down; it shakes the morose out of the mundane of day-to-day life. When love enters, we feel anything is possible and the world is a kingdom we rule. For Scott Pilgrim, nothing is normal after Ramona Flowers skates past his Toronto lair. His world is a dream and his dream feels real. As it turns out, getting into the head of an Indie rocking, video game playing, movie quoting 22-year-old in love is more fun than you might think. You can cough it up to demographics if you'd like, but Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is one of the most honest films about relationships I've seen since 500 Days of Summer (one of my favorite films, ever) in the best and most ridiculous kind of way.

BioShock Infinite game trailer would make for a gorgeous movie

The BioShock movie may be in limbo, but the video game series is breaking new ground, err, breaking free of ground, I should say. Unlike the original BioShock, which takes place in an underwater 'paradise,' Infinite takes the concept airborne. Check out this first-person POV (point of view) trailer. The game's description is below.

Last Man Standing (LMS) bought by Paramount as a film, video game, and more

Looking at the picture, you might think Sony is developing a sequel to PlanetSide. No sir. It's a new entertainment franchise. Paramount has bought the rights to LMS: Killbook of a Bounty Hunter, an upcoming 230 page graphic novel by DC comics artist Dan LuVisi. Paramount is looking to develop a movie and video game (at least) based on the franchise though few details are known.

Awesome: Super Mario Bros. on a sidewalk (short film)

One of the things I hope to promote on Cinema Soldier is cool short films. This, my friends, is 7 captivating minutes of film. I'm not quite sure how they did it, but the whole Super Mario Bros. NES game is projected onto a sidewalk, with underground areas on the cement! It has to be done in post-production (filmed the sidewalk, then added the Mario), but it looks so damn convincing. The camera shakes all around, but the image never moves a millimeter. Awesome job guys.
