Fox gains rights to vampire hunter flick about Abe Lincoln

Yes, it is as awesome as it sounds!

Twentieth Century Fox has beaten out Summit (the people responsible for the Twilight Saga!), among others, for the film rights of Seth Grahame-Smith's novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  The movie will chronicle - you guessed it - Abraham Lincoln's adventurous pursuit of revenge on the undead bloodsuckers that were responsible for his mother's death.

Intrigued?  I know I am!

RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE is a mindless 3D slow-mo shockfest (review)

Rating:  (Passable)

If you think you've seen it all, hold on to your colostomy bags, because Resident Evil: Afterlife is about to blow you away! Not only is Paul W.S. Anderson--the series writer and helmer of the 2002 original--back to direct, he's brought a horde of upgrades to the series! Check it out!

It's got:

  • Big outdoor cinematic shots
  • Tons of bullet-time shots, circa 1999
  • An Emilia Earhart plane
  • Upgraded "Las Plagas" (Progenitor) zombies with fangy faces ala Blade II
  • Digging zombies
  • A 10 foot tall axe-hammer zombie
  • Boss fights
  • Wentworth Miller trapped in a prison cell (poor guy)
  • A mind-controlling chest device (RE5)
  • 3D!!!!

With gimmicks like these, who needs anything else? Resident Evil: Afterlife is more a series of zombie-defying 3D scenarios than a real movie, but is anyone complaining?

Dylan Dog: Dead of Night trailer is horrible; Brandon Routh can't act

Brandon Routh seems like a really nice guy in interviews, but he's lifeless as hell when you put him in front of a camera. He looks good, but the Ken doll in Toy Story 3 was capable of more emotion. He certainly looked enough like Christopher Reeves to play the Man of Steel, but hasn't nabbed a significant role in the four years since Superman Returns hit theaters. Judging by the first trailer for Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, it's not hard to see why.

Brad Pitt to fight zombies in World War Z!

If you've read The Zombie Survival Guide, you may be prepared for the zombie apocalypse. But how would a real war play out? Author Max Brooks solved that dilemma with World War Z, a collection of first-person accounts spanning the the globe during the decade-long war against the zombies. I have not read the book yet, but if the Survival Guide is any indication, it's fun and well thought.

"The Crazies" trailer goes live (Video)

Zombies are back, though I’m not sure they ever left. On the eve of Zombieland hitting theaters, a trailer for The Crazies has finally gone live. As I reported on Wednesday, the film is a remake of a 1973 George Romero film of the same name. The remake stars Timothy Olyphant and takes place in a small Iowa town where a toxin contaminates the water supply, turning everyone completely crazy. Here’s the trailer.

Kudos to whoever made this trailer for using the Donnie Darko theme “Mad World” (a Tears for Fears remake by Gary Jules). I can’t think of a more depressing song. Read the rest of my thoughts at Collider.
